Music

Kirstie began playing the violin as a child and couldn't wait to get her hands on any and every musical instrument in sight. Along the way she has picked up the viola, piano, guitar, mandolin, and tin whistle, as well as singing folk harmonies with musically-crazed family and friends. Trained classically, she became interested in the music of the British Isles while hiking across England in her early teens. This interest led her to Scotland and into the silly rollicking dances and mournful laments of traditional Scottish fiddle music. She draws much inspiration from the likes of Alasdair Fraser, Natalie Haas, Natalie MacMaster and Bonnie Rideout. She started a graduate degree in ethnomusicology before realizing academia combined with small children was a recipe for personal insanity.
